Flexibility describes how far a joint can move passively. Mobility describes how well you can control that range under your own power, and under load. Most desk-based professionals do not need to become more flexible so much as they need more usable, controlled range.

This distinction matters because stretching alone rarely changes how you move in a squat, a hinge, or an overhead press. Control is built by training positions, not just holding them.

A practical approach combines a short amount of targeted range work with strength training performed through the fullest range you can manage well. Over time the position becomes familiar, stable, and available when you need it.

If a position feels restricted, the useful question is not simply how tight something is, but whether you can own that range with control. That is what coaching works on.
